Webcam Test

Preview your camera, check its real resolution and frame rate, and save a snapshot.

Video stays inside your browser. Nothing is recorded or uploaded.

How to use

Press Start camera and choose Allow when the browser asks. The preview is mirrored like a mirror by default. Turn off Mirror preview to see the image the way people in a video call usually see it.

Pick a camera and a requested resolution. The browser chooses the closest mode the camera supports, so the Resolution value shows what you actually get, which can be lower than what you asked for.

Frame rate, reported is the value the camera driver promises. Frame rate, measured counts the frames that actually arrive. In dim light many webcams lower the frame rate to expose each frame longer, so add light if the measured value drops.

Take photo grabs a full resolution frame and shows it below the preview. Download PNG saves it to your device. The photo is created inside your browser and is not uploaded.

FAQ

Why does the browser ask for permission to use my camera?

Browsers block every web page from the camera until you allow it, so the first visit shows a permission prompt. You can change the decision later from the site settings next to the address bar. The video is only shown on this page and is never recorded or sent anywhere.

Why is my webcam not detected, or why is the preview black?

Another app such as Zoom, Teams or OBS may be holding the camera, so close it and try again. Many laptops have a privacy shutter or a function key that turns the camera off. On macOS, check System Settings, then Privacy & Security, then Camera. On Windows, check Settings, then Privacy & security, then Camera.

Why is the resolution lower than my webcam's specification?

The browser picks a video mode the camera offers for streaming, and that may be smaller than the number on the box, which sometimes refers to still photos. Try 1080p or 4K in the Requested resolution list. A USB hub or a busy USB port can also limit the modes the camera offers.

Why is my measured frame rate low?

Low light is the most common cause, because the camera keeps each frame exposed longer. High resolutions over USB 2.0, power saving on laptops and other apps using the camera can also reduce it. The measured value cannot exceed your display refresh rate.

Is my video recorded or uploaded?

No. The preview runs inside your browser and nothing leaves your device. A photo exists only in this tab until you download it, and it is discarded when you close the page.
